Origin: South India and Vietnam.

Flavour: Sharp flavour
*known as the most important spice.

Uses: Almost every savoury and some sweet recipes. No pantry is complete without Black pepper. It transforms so many recipes from bland to magical. This is definitely a Jem’s favourite pantry ingredient!

Dishes: Pasta, stew, sauce (sweet and savoury), baked goods, meat, poultry, seafood, veggies, stir–fry, black pepper chicken or beef (hei jiao niu liu), cacio e pepe, Taiwanese black pepper buns (hu jiao bing), strawberries with balsamic vinegar.

Compliments for Black Pepper: Caraway seed, basil, rosemary, curry, thyme, garlic, mustard seed. *Almost every herb, spice and spice blend.

Substitutes for Black Pepper: Cayenne pepper, white peppercorn, pink peppercorn.
